Mural History
Welcome to the Rustic Love Hearts and Home Mural, a historic public art piece in the heart of downtown Vienna! This vibrant mural resides on a historic 1903 building owned by Commonwealth Home Design, our premier sponsor. Each of the 66 hearts (and home!) were sponsored by families and businesses in our community, and $67,000 was raised for the Rustic Love mission to help food-insecure kids and families in our community. Learn more about Rustic Love’s history as a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization at rusticlove.org
Public art is known to inspire change, uplift hearts, celebrate community and bring vibrancy to public spaces. It can also attract tourism, raise awareness about social issues and memorialize historical events and time periods. We hope that our colorful inviting mural will serve as a reminder of how our amazing community came together during the 2020 pandemic to help countless children and families in our community.
The Mural and Community Involvement
Our mural is the result of the efforts of thousands of local residents. In June of 2020, Rustic Love began crafting wooden heart yard signs to help raise funds for the food-insecure, and local families and businesses enthusiastically embraced the mission. This community kindness has enriched the mission’s momentum and the mural serves as a permanent art installation celebrating the love and concern our community has shown to our neighbors in need. Our primary mural collaborators who brought this mural to life are Rustic Love, Commonwealth Home Design, Gimga Design Group, Teresa L.C. Ahmad, and Peggy James/The Vienna Business Association.
